Lipid Clinic
Numerous studies have reported that one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke from atherosclerosis is to bring your cholesterol levels within the guidelines recommended by the National Cholesterol Education Program.

The Cardiovascular Center of Hampton Roads' Lipid Clinic focuses on patients who have high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) with the goal of assisting these patients in achieving and maintaining optimal lipid levels to live longer and healthier lives.

Benefits
Participation in a lipid clinic is preferred because it increases your chance of keeping your lipid goals on target. Lipid clinic providers can modify your therapy, whereas patients without such support might discontinue the necessary medications. It is also important for patients to have their lipid management adjusted over time. Our lipid clinic provides you with more frequent monitoring so your strategy can be adjusted appropriately. Finally, the important aspects of lifestyle modification involving diet and exercise recommendations are best handled by participation in a lipid clinic. Our clinic will provide you with the ongoing education, motivation, and support required to help you make healthy changes in your daily routine.

Our Staff
Our Lipid Clinic is a collaborative practice, including Cardiologists, Nurse Practitioners, and educators, who all work together to help you succeed at lowering your cholesterol.

Our staff will provide you with a detailed assessment of your cardiac risk factors and current dietary and exercise habits to create an individualized treatment plan. This treatment plan includes extensive diet and exercise education as well as the possibility of initiating cholesterol-lowering medications (including prescription and over-the-counter medications) to control high cholesterol and/or reduce risks of possible future cardiac events.
