Preparation: Do not eat or drink 4 hours prior to the procedure. Take your medication as prescribed (for example, insulin) with a sip of water, unless otherwise advised. Women, please wear slacks or a skirt and comfortable walking shoes (sneakers).
Duration: 1½ hours (90 minutes)
Stress Echocardiogram

This procedure will measure your cardiovascular system's response to physical exercise with both stress testing and ultrasound waves. Before you exercise, pictures will be taken at rest. Then you will be prepared for the exercise part of the procedure. Immediately after you exercise, a second set of pictures will be taken and compared to the resting images. This will allow the physician to actually visualize the heart muscle and EKG response to the exercise. Please read the description of Treadmill Testing and Echocardiogram for greater detail.
